Portrait sculpts.. How does it work?
PORTRAIT SCULPT
There are two different ways a Portrait Sculpt can be commissioned: as a single piece (paying for all the process from the sculpt to the finished product) or with the permission for me to create an edition (paying just for the blank or finished doll) ,all the infos below.
The sculpt is carefully modelled by hand, beginning in polymer clay, with the goal of capturing the baby's individual features and characteristics as accurately as possible.
To begin, I ask you to provide as many photographs and videos as possible, ideally showing the baby from different angles. Detailed photographs are always helpful, but I can work with the material you have available. Before and during the sculpting process, I will also communicate with the parents about the baby's features and particular characteristics. You know your baby better than anyone, so your observations are an important part of creating a portrait that truly represents them.
There is no fixed deadline. I prefer to take the time necessary to achieve the best possible result rather than rushing the process.
There are two different ways a Portrait Sculpt can be commissioned:
1. ONE-OF-A-KIND PORTRAIT
The portrait can be created exclusively for you, resulting in one single blank kit or one finished silicone doll based on your baby's portrait.
In this case, the entire creation process is commissioned and paid for:
Portrait Sculpt → Mould → Silicone Casting → Blank Kit OR Finished Doll
The original sculpt remains my property.
Pricing depends on the final size:
Portrait Sculpt
- Mini: from €500–€700
- Newborn size: from €1,200–€1,800
Mould
- Mini: from €500
- Newborn size: up to €1,300
Silicone Casting
- Blank Kit: from €500 for a Mini to €2,000 for a Newborn
- Finished Silicone Doll: from €800 for a Mini to €6,500 for a Newborn
The final choice is between a blank kit or a finished doll. These are alternative options and are not charged together.
A deposit is required for a one-of-a-kind commission. Payment plans are available and can be arranged throughout the process.
2. PORTRAIT SCULPT → EDITION
The second possibility is to create a portrait sculpt that can subsequently become a commercial reborn/silicone kit.
In this case, you are purchasing the resulting blank kit or finished doll, rather than paying separately for the sculpting, mould-making and production process.
There is no initial deposit for an edition.
All details concerning the future edition are decided by me as the artist, including the number of pieces, whether the edition will be limited or open, and the type of production. The portrait sculpt remains my intellectual property and may also be used to create an edition in another medium, including vinyl, at my discretion.
Once the kit is released, it may be purchased and painted by other reborn artists as well.
Because the portrait is based on a real baby, I always prepare a written agreement containing all relevant details and permissions. This agreement is signed by both myself, as the artist, and the baby's parent(s)/legal guardian(s), confirming the necessary consent for the creation and use of the portrait.
A PERSONAL AND COLLABORATIVE PROCESS
A Portrait Sculpt is not simply a reproduction of a photograph. It is a collaborative process between the artist and the baby's family.
I take into consideration the photographs and videos provided, but I also rely on the parents' knowledge of their baby 's unique features, expressions and characteristics. Small details that may not be obvious in a photograph can make a significant difference in the final sculpt.
For this reason, I do not work with a rigid production deadline. Every portrait is given the time it needs to achieve the best possible result.
Shipping is included in the quoted price.
